Purity Papaya Smoothie

Ok, so did your kids love scooping the seeds out of the papaya when you introduced Purity Papaya to them?

And did you end up with a lot of Papaya leftover?

We sure did! Only a few of us really enjoy eating it. I’m one, but I can only eat so much of that delicious fruit.

So I decided to freeze it and try out a smoothie using papaya from the Minimalist Baker. I changed it up a bit based on what we had on hand and our taste preferences and here it is. It was a hit among most of my kids, which is a score considering one of them almost never drinks smoothies that are not his tried-and-true favorite one (peanut butter smoothie).

And where’s the tie-in to our Virtues Tree fun?

Let’s just say you can always use organic ingredients and have that discussion about GMO vs. pure ingredients suggested in the Purity Papaya Intro. 😉

You can also discuss how a Pure Heart allows the other beautiful virtues of kindness, selflessness, love, and so on to shine through, like the pure heart that is as a mirror can let lights of various colors shine through. See if you can taste all the delicious ingredients that shine through. Your kids can try finding names of virtues to go with the different ingredients: like Generosity Ginger and Loving Lime (though we have other fruits for the Virtues Tree that are associated with these virtues).

We love how beautiful the frozen papaya turned out:

Here’s our variation on the Minimalist Baker’s recipe for a large family size serving of:

Purity Papaya Smoothie

Ingredients
  • 3 cups (430 g) frozen ripe papaya cubes
  • 1 small ripe banana, previously peeled, sliced and frozen (or 2 frozen and no fresh)
  • 1 small ripe banana, peeled and broken in two (or 2 fresh and no frozen)
  • 1-2 tsp minced ginger (to taste)
  • 1/2 lime, juiced
  • 1 cup (240 ml) mango juice
  • 1 cup (240 ml) light coconut milk
  • 2 Tbsp (30 ml) honey (or other sweetener of choice)
 Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in blender and mix until smooth.
  2. Adjust taste and liquidity as desired.
  3. Enjoy!

I missed that lime juice was called for until near the end, and only added a little, as I missed the amount too. We all thought it’d be great with more, so I guessed on the above amount. Feel free to ramp it up if your taste buds want more and vice versa.

What are your favorite ways to enjoy leftover papaya? Any tie-ins to our Purity Papaya theme?
