Pure Heart Start

Ok, mamas. Got your Pure Heart Intro down and ready for dessert?

Here’s an idea that I came up with after a hard day with my youngest. This is now part of our ongoing family chats about Pure Hearts. Hope you will find this as helpful as we have:

You know how it feels to have a rough day where everything seems to go wrong – from accidentally breaking a glass at breakfast to being bullied by a neighborhood kid (or mom for us mamas, ;-))?

It’s easy for a kid to bottle up various frustrations throughout the day and finally take it out on his baby sister at bedtime, upsetting her and ultimately everyone, right?

That’s when you can call your sweetie back to his Pure Heart state by inviting him to get a Pure Heart Start through centering methods – prayer, mediation, inspiration, awareness, and tools to deal with those negative realities.

Call on God’s help. Breath. Punch a pillow. Do a favorite yoga pose. Count to ten. Take a breather in a safe place to calm down. Journal.

Now that you feel better, ask your child to do one of these or whatever works for your little one. (hahahaha)

Once he has found his internal peace again, then he can restore the peace with his sister and family.

How to make this idea stick? Have a heart-to-heart talk about how every one of us has a Pure Heart Start to our days (or at least most of them).

We all have a Pure Heart Start to (most of) our days. Life is like a game where every now and then we get stuck by the negative. That’s when we need to go back to the Pure Heart Start. Once there, our positive energy flows again and moves us along.

Life is like a game where we move along happily when we keep things positive and/or deal appropriately with the negative. But sometimes we get stuck when negative energy blocks our progress. Negative thoughts, unkind words, unpleasant actions – toward ourselves and/or others.

And while these are all natural, if we cling to them, they can slow us down or even stop us. That’s a sign we need to address them. How?

Go back to a Pure Heart Start to get ourselves into a happy, productive gear again.

It may be that you need to first deal with a lot of negative build-up and that’s great. Do it. The centering activities mentioned above can be a big help.

I’m sure you have a ideas and tools you use at home too. Whatever works for you, take the time to do it and enjoy the process.

And don’t be afraid to accompany your child in the process. Breath or pray with him.

If you tried this out, how’d it work for your family? What ways do you help you and your child get a Pure Heart Start?
